Danielle Hunter -- Too Overlooked?

Post by Brian wolf »

After dominating the Steelers right tackle last night in an easy Texan's victory, I had to find away to give a shoutout to this guy.
Is he just too overlooked as a great pass rusher? After now, 5 PB nominations, mostly with the Vikings, Hunter finally achieved his second AP All-Pro recognition on 2nd team for the Texans.

Maybe his run defense isnt great, but unlike some talented pass rushers like Clowney, Gary in GB, Young in NO, and the young Jared Verse with the Rams, this guy puts the QB to the ground.

He has played ten seasons, but also had to come back from an injury in 2020, that wiped out his season. He was slow to get back into form but was his usual self by 2022, getting to QBs. Counting postseason, he now has 120 career sacks and could threaten over 140 for his career with this defense. Another huge game against the Patriots, can only help a HOF case, but like other talented pass rushers like Simeon Rice, Leslie O'Neil, John Abraham, Robert Mathis and others, he might not make the HOF. Could a championship help his future chances?

If Hunter makes it to Canton, then he'll probably be the lone player from the 2015 draft class to get a gold jacket.

Overlooked? More like overrated.

His numbers in Minnesota were empty calories. What has he ever won- a handful of wild card games?

He is not a HOF’er nor even hall of very good

Hunter was a big piece to Mike Zimmer's defenses but couldnt get to the SB with Keenum or Cousins at QB. Youre probably right, he probably wont get more recognition unless the Texans go all the way but we will see how far this defense can take them. If Collins doesnt play, they wont beat the Patriots.

What makes Hunter's numbers "empty calories"?

Never made a playoff impact. Minnesota won in spite of him.

Not enough regular season impact to go with it then?
