Okay, so you're going to put a coach in the HOF because they are 12-9 in the postseason?
Belichick, Reid... then who for Canton?

Although it is an actual fact, that was really some sort of joke thing. To be serious, I would use postseason W-L records as a tiebreaker if there were two coaches I otherwise ranked pretty evenly. If two were within .02 of one another in regular season winning percentage over 15+ years but one was 3-1 in Super Bowls and 18-12 overall in the postseason and the other was 1-2 in Super Bowls and 17-13 in the playoffs, I might rank the former over the latter.

This weekend starts another big opportunity for Sean Payton to help his own HOF case. He has had more success than John Harbaugh and could still try to be the first HC to win world championships in both conferences/leagues since Weeb Ewbank.
If he could win it all in Nix's second season as starting QB, he will make the HOF. It all starts with Buffalo.
I can see people clamoring for Coughlin. He nearly made it to the SB for Jax and won two with the Giants. Unless youre Buddy Parker, two championships usually gets a coach into the HOF, but Seifert, Shanahan and Coughlin are still waiting like Parker. What may hurt Coughlin, was his last three seasons with both the Jags and Giants, where his talented rosters had bad seasons. Manning was regressing under Coughlin and only went to the postseason one season his final eight years as starter.

Going by recent history, Tomlin should be fine for the HOF. Since 2020, the HOF has inducted Coryell (no Super Bowls, 3-6 in playoffs), Dick Vermeil (1 Super Bowl, 6-5 in playoffs), Tom Flores (2 Super Bowls, 8-3 in playoffs), Bill Cowher (1 Super Bowl, 12-9 in playoffs) and Jimmy Johnson (2 Super Bowls, 9-4 in playoffs).JWL wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 11:48 amsluggermatt15 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 9:40 amOkay, so you're going to put a coach in the HOF because they are 12-9 in the postseason?

And people are calling for Holmgren (1 Super Bowl, 13-11 in playoffs) too, lol.
Tomlin has far more wins than Holmgren, Vermeil, Cowher, Flores and Jimmy J. Seems to me like a head coach just needs to win a Super Bowl and they are going to get into Canton. So I guess we should get ready for Mike McCarthy too, right?

Holmgren also has the two conference championships. He definitely has a better case than McCarthy ... haha
