Matthew Stafford: HOVG, or HOF?

I don't see how Stafford would be HOF and Roethlisberger and Wilson are not... especially when the comparisons are fairly close.

IMO Roethlisberger has the stronger film. He is arguably the most escapable QB of his size in NFL history. Watch his highlight reels. Many of the plays he made are incredible. He is a 6'5" Houdini. On a number of them, it takes 3-4 defenders to bring him down.

We will see what the Rams do in postseason. With Stafford 1st team All-Pro, he could also be a possible MVP, and a SB win--many feel they are the best team in football--could seal the deal, down the line. Its a true quandary, with different tiers of QBs.

Some have to be left out, but with voters getting younger, subjectivity gets more skewed.

I remember beating the drum for Stafford when he first was traded to LA, and getting some pushback on this board by saying all he needed was a different supporting cast and organization and he'd be a HOFer. As it stands now he has the numbers, longevity, some accolades, a SB win, and possibly a MVP and second SB ring waiting on him.

I wish Stafford could've played under the current regime in Detroit. He'd have the tools to win like he does in LA. I don't think the Lions can win a SB with Goff at the helm. Although IMHO Goff and Stafford are in many ways interchangeable, Stafford just strikes me as the guy who could've put the Lions over the top, just as he has already done once--and maybe twice, pending this postseason's results--with the Rams.

FWIW I think Stafford and Big Ben both should be in Canton. Goff will continue to pile up numbers, but he's lacking those guys' grit.

I questioned him as a leader in Detroit, but he is poised to possibly win his second championship and first MVP award. Can the team get it done?

I disagree on Goff. I still think he can win it all with Detroit if the team gets it together on defense. Injuries have hurt them, especially this year on the offensive line and secondary. I didnt believe they should have made a scapegoat of Morton either. Campbell simply didnt coach as well this year. McDaniel from Miami could be exciting for Goff if they get him.

One thing Stafford can add to his resume is a first team all pro selection now.

But as we saw with Lamar last year, being first team all pro doesn’t automatically mean you’ll win an MVP. Granted there’s no voter fatigue at play here with Stafford like there could’ve been for Lamar Jackson.

And the "check the boxes" season for Stafford continues. After that crappy game where they finally overcame the elements last night, can Stafford win his second NFC championship against possibly the best team in football? Another possible check the box moment for any possible, HOF momentum. He and Darnold could be the only team leaders keeping the Patriots from winning it all ...

Maye is the only QB left in the tournament who is starting for his original team. The others were free agents.

Let's remove Cam, since no one besides me apparently thinks he should be discussed. (I think he should if Ryan is.) Stafford would now be the only QB here with an MVP plus a ring. He would be the only two-ring player here with an MVP. He would have the most career passing yards and passing touchdowns of any non-lock QB who also had a championship. His candidacy completely knocks Ryan's candidacy off the board, makes Eli's look really bad and dims Rivers's quite a bit. And he would have the hands down best season of any of these, with an MVP, SB MVP, AP1, passing title, TD title all in the same year.

Stafford is also hoping to lead his teammates to victory over Seattle and keep Sam Darnold from possibly doing what only Stafford, Brady and Dilfer have done since the 2000 season -- win a championship in their first season as starting QB. Dilfer may not count since he took over from another starter, but still, his first and only season with the Ravens.
