Think of the defensive lines they played and how few sacks were given up, the Oilers d-line had Childress/Fuller/Sean Jones, Fuller led the NFL in sacks that year if I'm not mistaken? Chicago still had Dan Hampton and Richard Dent ripping and tearing. Dallas Jim Jeffcoat(underrated), Giants still had defense, Philly's White/Brown/Simmons(though they got accounted for 5 sacks on them).

Ah yes, pro-football reference’s simple rating system. That stat takes every team’s point differential and compares it to the average of who they were facing; with the second column of numbers you typed being the the adjustments for schedule.Mark wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 8:05 pm Since someone keeps complaining about 1991 Washington winning against non play off teams but has never answered my question about what teams have won more games vs. playoff teams I decided to do a little exercise with the 1990s SB champions. The first number is what Pro Football Reference gives as their rating of each team, the second is their strength of schedule [lower number easier schedule] and then how many playoff teams each defeated with those teams listed in parentheses so that people can check behind me as I probably missed some]

Biggest difference between that metric and my score percentage metric is SRS includes non-offensive scoring, mine does not, and mine takes into account roughly how many drives the points were scored and allowed in.
My metric says the following for the ten 90’s Super Bowl champions and their rankings out of everyone in the league by the numbers:
1990 Giants: 0.1468 (1st)
1991 Redskins: 0.260762 (1st)
1992 Cowboys: 0.147418 (3rd)
1993 Cowboys: 0.198461 (1st)
1994 49ers: 0.194167 (1st)
1995 Cowboys: 0.150736 (2nd)
1996 Packers: 0.203381 (1st)
1997 Broncos: 0.173067 (1st)
1998 Broncos: 0.162123 (3rd)
1999 Rams: 0.15904 (1st)
