Re: 2026 52 Modern-era candidiates

I had Lomas Brown on my podcast to talk about the push from the Lions. He was obviously flattered. he is interesting candidate, but his big knock was him saying he intentionally missed block(s) to get his QB hurt. 15 years later he said he regretted it Hard to say if he intentionally missed blocks,...

Re: The Decline of Punting

Out of curiosity, has anyone done a study into where on the field and on what yardage to go teams would punt at, and how rare it is at midfield now? Side note: Given the recent increase in teams going for it on fourth down, and therefore the reduced number of mid-field punts , a potential unbreakab...

Re: "Teams of Destiny" you believed in and were disappointed by

I remember in school in 1981, every football fan thought Dallas would go all the way. When the Niners beat them, several of us were so shocked, we admitted crying afterward ... haha Growing up in North Carolina at the time it seemed like the Cowboys OWNED the 4PM slot, I'm honestly not sure if I'd ...

Re: 2026 Hall of Fame Seniors - Last 52 Ranked by Position Group

That's a good q on if/who holds stickum against him. Lester had a few years were he committed an unreasonable amount of penalties. And that's sort of the problem - I've charted ~20% of his career games and he really is very borderline. Is there another player ever who's reputation is so largely col...

Re: The Decline of Punting

Alright, so I actually pulled the data, and I must say I was surprised how much punting has improved even when you control for many fewer Punts near the endzone. A few interesting insights, from 2000 - 2004, there was no field position from which Punters across the league averaged over 50-yards per ...

Re: The Decline of Punting

I've not looked at this, but it's probably a meaningful contributor to the increase in Gross Punting Averages. In a world where the Coffin Corner is no longer a thing and Punters can just go "bombs away" 100% of the time you'd expect averages to meaningfully increase - right? But I wonder ...

Re: 1992 Chargers discussion

A nice defense, 4th in points allowed at just 15.1 / Game; Seau 2nd in DPOY voting and Leslie O'Neal 5th in voting with his 17 Sacks. Also Chris Mims probably had his best season as a rookie that year.

Re: Are there individual stats for blocked kicks?

Lewis apparently blocked 12 kicks (9 FGs, 3 PATs) in the first 12 games the Packers used him on the special teams, including three field goals and a PAT in the playoffs against the Cardinals and at least two PATs (against Buffalo and Chicago) that he blocked over the crossbar for successful scores....

Re: Are there individual stats for blocked kicks?

But, no, that's not kept. You'd have to go through game books, and even then you'll miss some. The St. Louis playoff game, for instance, saw Lewis originally credited with one of each until the Packers looked at the film and saw he deflected two other FG attempts. Deflected kicks do NOT count as bl...
