Re: 1976 Expansion Draft
How many players were unprotected by team so that the Seahawks and Buccaneers could pick the players?? They could protect 29, then after a player was picked two more could be protected, then after a second player two more. After 3 they were done. Everyone that they team had rights to, anyone on any...

Re: the 2-point try while down 9 debate
I think if you are going for 2 down 9 you are probably going for 2 down 1 as well.

Re: Vikings/Raiders Super Bowl X (1975)
In the actual Super Bowl between the two teams, XI, the Vikings made an effort to feature Chuck Foreman, both in the running and passing game, and try to take advantage of Sammy White vs. Skip Thomas. Foreman didn't run the ball well, did better in receiving passes. White didn't get much going again...

Re: Russell Wilson in Canton?
As far as AP goes, Elway was never AP. Ditto Rothlisberger, Rivers, Staubach. Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rothlisberger are all basically locks. I wouldn't call Wilson a lock, but he's at the 80% level or so which means he's going in. He's a better candidate than Rivers, Ryan, Eli, Stafford. The only rea...

Re: All-time record of most yards-per-play by a team in a single game?
10.61, Jets vs Colts, 9/24/1972. Namath threw 6 TDs. A lot of people remember this game.
Next highest is 2017 Chiefs in a 38-31 loss to the Jets.
8.81 by the Lions is in 72nd place.

Re: The Greatest Opening Week Game Ever?
A forgotten one would be the Vikings getting revenge on the Chiefs in 1970. Forgotten because the Chiefs wound up not making the playoffs at all, while the Vikings lost in the first round.

Re: Last kickers/punters who were actual players
Once the 40 man rosters came about, most teams had at least one specialist. The last team I can think of without any specialists was the 1968 Packers, who started the year with Jerry Kramer doing the kicking and Donny Anderson doing the punting. Though they had added a kicker by the end of the year...

Re: "Missing piece"
Not often you would put a rookie here, but Tony Dorsett in 1977 qualifies. A team that was a contender already pulls in a HOF talent in the draft. Stupid trade by the Seahawks. Odell Beckham for the Rams. In today's NFL you're not going to be the 1970s Steelers where you have way more depth than any...

Re: Last kickers/punters who were actual players
In the days of much shorter rosters, starting QBs punted A LOT, but Pastorini was perhaps the last one. Working on a PFRA piece about this very subject right now.
