2000 Ravens=1980 Raiders

I am watching the 30 for 30 on the 2000 Ravens (on You Tube), and I saw an America's Game episode with the 1980 Raiders on the recommendations on the right side of the screen. I realized something: The 1980 Raiders and 2000 Ravens were similar. 1. They had veteran first-round QB's (Jim Plunkett, Tre...

Re: Which Super Bowl drought do you find the most surprising?

The Chargers never winning a Super Bowl considering some of the teams that they had, like the late-00's team and the Air Coryell team.

Probably the latter. I know that the Bills made them look fast in the Super Bowl.

Re: Fictitious match-up (obviously): 1976 Raiders vs. 1985 Bears

Also, in an NFL Top 10 episode (the one on linebacking corps), Mike Ditka said that Mike Singletary and Wilber Marshall weren't that good at coverage. How were the guys in the secondary at that? I don't know if their secondary was that great, either. Fencik and Duerson were good safeties, but I don...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

What if Greg Cook does not get hurt? Which team drafts 3rd rounder Ken Anderson in 1971? The Colts? Their last pick in the 3rd round was QB Karl Douglas. The Colts don't trade for Domres either. And don't draft Bert Jones in '73 I wonder if the Colts still take Douglas (a black QB, by the way. That...

Re: Ranking the Losing Super Bowl Starting Quarterbacks

The Bills were so strong in 1991 that people forget that Bruce Smith missed most of the season. Nobody wanted to play in the Met in December or Rich Stadium in January. It psyched teams out, especially the Rams and Dolphins. I don't think the Bills were that much better than Miami in 1992, however....

Meanwhile lesser QB’s got carried to rings while doing nothing except avoid turnovers and get carried (Simms, Rypien, Hostetler)
You forgot Brady, who had a top-10 defense practically every year, and got bailed out by the officials on a regular basis.

Re: Ranking the Losing Super Bowl Starting Quarterbacks

In the regular season, he was good enough to beat the '85 Bears. However, in the post-season, he couldn't beat the '85 Patriots - at home - in Miami - and was badly outplayed by the "great" Tony Eason. No defense? He was drafted by a team that was just in the Super Bowl. Do you think Davi...

Re: Which team do you consider the best of each decade?

2 of Gibbs’ SB were in strike years The 1987 SB was won because he decided not to trade Doug Williams. Schroeder wouldn't have led the Skins to the SB (Williams and Gibbs talked about this in the 1987 America's Game episode). The 1991 SB was won because they played Atlanta and Detroit, and they wer...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

I don't think anything would have changed. The 5 regular season games he had 2 games that were not very good and 3 that were. He stank in the first 2 playoff games hitting 48 and 35 percent. The Super Bowl, give him credit for hitting the passes but the WRers were open by a mile and the run game ho...
